Skirt City: Fibre Mood Amira and hacked Sabina Skirt

Today, it’s a three-for-one kind of day on the blog, as I’m sharing two new skirts and one new top.

I’ve got a Fibre Mood Amira Skirt, with a matching Georgia top, as well as a heavily hacked Sabina Skirt by the Little Pomegranate (which is a free pattern!). Both made out of printed viscose.

The reason I have decided to combine these into one is that I have made each of these patterns previously and have nothing new or original to say about them.

So it’s still going to be a bit of a short blog post!

More of a photo dump than anything else!!!!

Sezane Inspiration

I make no secret of the fact that I am huge fan of the brand Sezane. Not only do I buy plenty of their clothes (especially knitwear), but my sewing choices often takes inspiration from them!

And one of my favourite silhouettes from Sezane is the classic printed skirt worn with knitwear combination.

It’s a combination I find myself reaching for very often in my day-to-day dressing.

So I wanted to add a couple of new printed skirts to my collection to continue this look that I really enjoy.

Fibre Mood Amira Skirt

For the white-based skirt, I have used the Fibre Mood Amira Skirt.

This classic pleated skirt is probably my favourite skirt pattern of all time. Simple, voluminous, feminine.

Put simply, it makes me feel good.

This version of the Fibre Mood Amira Skirt is exactly the same as my previous versions, so you can check out the ins-and-outs of the sewing process in that post.

As I had just enough fabric leftover to create a matching top – for those days when I want a ‘faux-dress’ look, I decided to cut one out and sew it right away. I used the Elizabeth Suzann Georgia tee pattern – which I’ve also sewn and blogged about before.

You see, I know myself well enough that I have put aside enough leftover fabric to make a top, it will sit in my stash forever, languishing. Whereas, if I actually want to make sure that I do sew the matching top, I need to cut it out and sewing it at the same time as the accompanying project.

There is simply no other way to make sure that I get it done!!

Sabina Skirt hacked in layers

The second skirt I have sewn up is the free Sabina Skirt Pattern by Little Pomegranate, hacked to be a tiered skirt.

I’ve also blogged about this pattern before, so, again, you can see all the details of the sewing experience here.

For this version, I wanted it to be more midi than maxi, so I simply shortened each of the layers. I also went with a plain elastic waist, rather than a drawstring, as I couldn’t find any drawstrings at my local fabric shop.

I am really happy with both these skirts.

There is just something so wearable about printed skirts, for me. They go equally well with t-shirts in summer as with tights and a sweater in winter and, their swirly twirly goodness just makes me smile!!

What can I say, one can never have enough pretty printed skirts!!

  1. Both these skirts look great and they also look really fun to wear! I love the matching top for a “dress” look when you want it – that’s a great idea!
