Autumn Knit Meridian Dress

So for the second time, I have sewn up the Meridian Dress by Papercut Patterns in a knit fabric, rather than a woven, as designed.

This is the second time that I’ve sewn this hack, so if you are after details, I’d suggest you check out my first knit hack of the Meridian Dress.

The Meridian Dress caters for a maximum waist size of 98cm (38.6″) and maximum hip of 124cm (48.8″), so it is not an inclusive size range. My Meridian Dress is a size Medium, but with a bit of extra room added at the waist.

I really wanted to make a cosy sweater dress out of this lovely knit that I bought for half price, and I’m happy with my choice of the Meridian Dress.

And there is something about autumn which makes me just want to wear this rust kind of colour. Perhaps I feel that if I wear this colour at the park, my son may not be able to find me amongst the trees and leaves and I will therefore be awarded with a glorious five minutes of peace.

So, yes, I guess it’s kind of an Autumn camouflages kind of dress.

My hacks to the pattern are very minor. I skipped the keyhole and button at the back . I added cuffs, for a bit of interest and cosy-factor. I also had to shorten the dress by 5cm from the original length as I didn’t have enough fabric.

It was one of those “necessity is the mother-of-all-invention” kind of moments.

I recently used this same fabric to make a sweater dress version of the LB Pullover, where I complained about a horrible wavy hem.

I was pleased to discover while sewing this Meridian Dress that using a triple straight stitch to hem, rather than a zig zag, yielded a far improved finish on this thick knit fabric.

You live, you learn.

I do still have this fabric in one more colour way, so at least I know how to approach the hem for that one!

Sorry that this post is a quickie – it was a rather uneventful sew, so not too much to say! Now, excuse me a moment while I go and try to hide among the autumn leaves…

  1. Nice dress!
It seems really comfortable for Christmas with the family.
I could see myself making it as well. Even the fabric is still half price.
    Enjoy your holidays!
