Today I’m sharing my take on the Fibre Mood Amelia Jumpsuit.

My default sentiments most days of my life are frazzled, stressed and imperfect. But I think this Fibre Mood Amelia Jumpsuit is a little bit magic.

Because it somehow makes me feel as though, despite the inner frazzle, I am channeling that effortless minimalist no-nonsense vibe that I wished I possessed!

By way of full disclosure, Fibre Mood offered me a copy of this pattern for free in exchange for making it up and posting about it in their “link party” at the time of the launch of the magazine in which it features: the first Special Edition of Fibre Mood magazine.

Also, full disclosure, I totally failed to meet that obligation. Life got in the way and, although I sewed up the pattern, I did not have time to photograph and share it in time. It was the photographs that took me so long to take. Having to be physically back in the office, combined with the complete lack of sunshine in The Netherlands at this time of year, means that it is sometimes taking me months and months after sewing a garment before I’m able to photograph it. Light only enters my apartment and balcony in the right direction once a day in the early morning and with swimming lessons for the kiddo one weekend morning, I am now left with one morning each week as the only possible time I can take photos. And when that morning is grey and dark for months in a row, there simply isn’t enough light in my home to take blog photos! Does anyone else living in greyish climates and restricted by work/life calendars have any tips for how the hell to get photographs of sewing taken?

Anyway, let’s put the ranting to one side and get back to Fibre Mood Amelia.

My Fibre Mood Amelia is a size L at the bust, graded to an XL at the waist and hips. As I often have issues with a long torso in jumpsuit patterns, I also added an extra centimetre of length at the waist. I’m glad I did so – it’s only a centimetre, but I think that it makes a difference to comfort levels on my body. I also added a couple of centimetres length to the sleeve to try to get a little bit more upper arm coverage.

Finally, I also added in beltloops to keep my fabric belt in the right place. Cuz there is nothing worse than a wandering belt! You know that feeling when you put your belt on in the perfect position in the morning and imagine it looks perfect all day, until you catch an unexpected glimpse of yourself in a mirror partway through the day and see that it has wandered inches lower or higher from its starting position!

The fabric I have used for my Fibre Mood Amelia is a lightweight linen cotton denim blend. I think it works really well for this pattern – with just enough structure to emphasise the interesting shape of the legs and arms.

I absolutely adore this finished garment, I think it is fabulous.

I found the Fibre Mood Amelia a pretty straightforward sew, except in respect of the hidden button placket. This step, I found to be a total head scratcher!

I always struggle a bit with hidden plackets – there is something about them that I can’t envisage how it will all come together. Nonetheless, this one came through fine, as long as I followed the instructions.

But, when it came to securing the bottom of my placket securely, here I was confounded by the instructions and ended up just kind of abandoning them and doing my own thing.

So while this one isn’t really all that weather appropriate for the middle of winter, I definitely have a feeling this will end up being a bit of a classic forever garment! Let’s hope it can help me keep my inner frazzled feeling at bay for many years to come!!
